Cane Origin: Java varietal Santa Maria Tlalixtac, Oaxaca 2,500-3,800 feet above sea level

Fermentation: In pine tanks with ambient yeasts

Distillation: By Rommel Krassel in a copper alembic pot still

Aging:

• Pot & Krassel Still Rum Blend:

  • Aged 3 Years in New French Oak Cask

  • Finished 11 Months in an Ex-Tequila Barrel

• Krassel Still Rum:

  • Aged 38 months in an Ex-Bourbon Barrel

  • Finished 10 months in an Ex-Merlot Oak Cask

Bottling: Cask strength at 56.1% ABV with no water, sugar, or coloring added. 571 bottles total

ABOUT THE MARIPOSA 88

This unique species, known as the “88 Butterfly” because of the distinct markings on the underside of its hindwings, can be found throughout tropical Central America and southern Mexico. While it stands out visually, the 88 Butterfly is tough to track due to their darting, low-to- the-ground flying patterns. With luck, you can spot an 88 perched on a rock alongside the Río Blanco, or feeding on fallen fruit from the abundant fruit trees in the area.
